Motown Meltdown

Last night (8/27) 45 of us set out for the annual Tigers Game/New School Year Kick-Off here at Jasper Bible Church. (This year they just happened to be playing the Yankees :-). The night was borderline disastrous in more ways than one! About 45 min. down the road, our 8-vehicle caravan came to a stop, and the vehicle directly behind our last vehicle rear-ended Dan's truck, as you can see. It hit with enough force to send the truck (which was a Suburban loaded w/ people!) a foot in the air and into Brian's Dodge Ram. Besides the lady in the car sustaining some mild injuries, nobody was hurt--thank God! After another 45 minutes of giving accident reports and making sure everyone was okay, we shuffled some people around and were able to find enough space (with seat belts!) for all the teens to continue to Detroit. The Moshers, Hess's and Fankhausers stayed behind with the disabled vehicles. Miraculously, we managed to make it to our seats before the first pitch! The Moshers, Hess's and Fankhausers made it there by the second inning!

The Tigers had the game of their franchise history (at least it seemed like it). Every hit and defensive play seemed to go their way. Meanwhile, the Yanks posted a goose-egg (thanks for showing up guys). My Yankees rally-cap was misinterpreted as my being ashamed of the ol' Bronx Bombers. Nothing could be further from the truth. Besides, as we all know, Torre was letting the boys rest up for this week's series against the Sauwx. All-in-all, the night was enjoyed by everyone with a "D" on their hat--which I supposed means "mission accomplished." Here's the Reader's Digest version:

45 Tickets to Comerica Park bought in May..........$675
8 Parking Spots in Detroit.......................................$120
1 Removal of a Suburban from atop of car.............$150
1 Lengthy Repair of said Suburban.........................$5,000
Setting the stage for next year's shelling of the Tigers (by NYY, of course)...PRICELESS!

The truck was dangerously close to rolling into the ditch!

If Dan hadn't tried to get off the road before the collision, we were told it would have been much worse.
